Why?

Basically to raise much needed funds for two good causes close to the fundraisers' hearts. It is intended to split all funds raised equally between the two.

Macmillan Cancer Relief

Macmillan Cancer Relief is a national charity which provides invaluable support to people with cancer and their families by providing treatment, care, information and support from the moment of diagnosis onwards. All it's work, which is at the forefront of developing and improving cancer care in the UK, is completely funded by donations from the public.

Macmillan is famous for it's Macmillan nurses, of which there are now over 2,000 working in the UK. Macmillan funds each nurse for three years before funding is taken over by the NHS. However, Macmillan continues to provide specialist support and training for all its postholders and they continue to be 'Macmillan' Nurses. Macmillan Nurses fulfil a huge variety of roles in treatment and care including offering advice on symptoms, treatments and control of side effects and pain. In addition they are highly regarded for the emotional support they offer to patients and their families, encouraging them to continue to live their lives as fully as possible despite their illness.

Macmillan's work does not stop with providing nurses. We also fund Macmillan Doctors and a large variety of other medical professionals, including physiotherapists, occupation therapists and dieticians to name but a few. In addition, Macmillan builds dedicated centres to help ease the experience of receiving treatment for cancer by making the environment as welcoming and
comfortable as possible.

Macmillan also help patients and families in financial difficulty as a result of their illness through it's patient grant scheme. In 1999 over £5 million was distributed to applicants, for example to pay for increased heating bills or for a convalescent break. Another key part of its work is to provide information to patients and their families, to ensure they are as fully informed as possible about their treatment, which helps ease the fears surrounding cancer. Publications include the Cancer Guide and many other leaflets. They also run an Information Line on 0845601 6161.
Macmillan helps over 200,000 new patients every year and requests for it's services are escalating.

They deserve our support.

Harrow Borough Football Club -Vice Presidents Association

In these days of multi million pound transfers and players earning anything up to GBP100k per week. It may surprise you to know that all is not rosy in the football garden, clubs at all levels are struggling to survive. This is even more true of the clubs at the grass root level who provide such a vital service to higher levels of football by providing the stars of the future, with a place to play. The clubs of non league football struggle to attract supporters through their turnstiles and consequently the financial support of major sponsors because of the overwhelming interest in the Premier League fuelled by the media.

Harrow Borough Football Club is nearly 70 years old, the club having risen from a park side to a level, only two promotions away from Division Three of the Football League and who reached the FA Cup First Round Proper last season, losing away to the eventual semi-finalists Wycombe Wanderers. However the current challenge for its officials and its small band of dedicated supporters who make up the Vice Presidents Association is not how to mount a challenge to Manchester United but how to ensure that their football club continues to play football at all. The costs of running a club continue to climb, both on and off the pitch and the Vice Presidents Association whose members voluntarily raise funds for the football club is frequently called upon to provide financial and practical help when the club is in need.

We would like Harrow Borough Football Club to survive for at least one hundred years and the funds raised from this event will go towards ensuring that happens.
