"88 IN 88"
FIVE GUYS
88 HOURS
2,500 MILES
In the early hours of Friday 15th March 2002, five supporters
of Ryman Premier League club, Harrow Borough will set out
on a great journey. By Monday evening, they hope to have covered
in their sponsored van, over 2,500 miles travelling the length
and breadth of England and Wales. They will pass through thirty-six
counties, visiting the football grounds of the 88 members
of the "Nationwide Conference" "The Ryman Premier
League" "The Dr Martens Premier League" and
"The Unibond Premier League". These four leagues
constitute the pinnacle of the non-league football pyramid.
Their motivation for undertaking such a challenge is to raise
much needed funds for two good causes close to their hearts;
the national charity - Macmillan Cancer Relief and Harrow
Borough Football Club (Vice Presidents Association).
The challenge is to complete the journey in 88 hours, which
will involve driving virtually non-stop in shifts, some nifty
map reading and only the briefest comfort breaks. During this
motoring marathon, they will have to visit Newport twice,
Newport Isle of Wight and Newport in Wales. Their most northerly
call will be at Blyth Spartans in the North East and most
southerly, Tiverton Town in Devon. The East and West of the
country is not neglected by flying visits to the white cliffs
at Dover in the east and the North Wales resort of Colwyn
Bay in the west. Their progress around the country will be
mapped on the challenge website: www.harrowboro.com/88in88/
They are being individually sponsored by friends and family
and have gratefully received assistance from companies such
as HSBC, Fans Direct, Nu-Aire Limited and 3663.
The participants are Nigel Blake, Anthony Burles, Keith Loddy,
Nicholas Ringham and Brian Bigwood.
