Background
There
have been many great adventurers in recent years - Sir Ranulph
Fiennes, Tony Bullimore and Michael Palin spring to mind.
They have taken on the polar weather, mountainous seas and
the dangerous jungle. However few have taken on willingly
the terrors of Spaghetti Junction, the Winchester Bypass and
the M62, to name only a few of the nations scariest roads,
and lived to tell the tale.
The motivation for undertaking this challenge is the ever
present financial needs of two organisations close to our
hearts; Macmillan Cancer Relief and Harrow Borough Football
Club, and it has been inspired by four Leyton Orient supporters
who visited all 92 league clubs in 92 hours in aid of their
favourite charities. As non league football fans, the five
thought they should do the non league equivilent and visit
all of the 88 members of the Nationwide Conference, Ryman
League Premier Division, Dr Martens League Premier Division
and Unibond League Premier Division. These four leagues constitute
the top of the non league football pyramid.
Their challenge will involve travelling the length and breadth
of England and Wales. From Blyth in the North East to Tiverton
in the South West and from the white cliffs of Dover in the
South Easth to the North Wales resort of Colwyn Bay. It is
estimated that if they complete the challenge they will have
covered over 2,500 miles, passing through thirty-six counties,
stopped at over a thousand red lights and passed a couple
of hundred Little Chefs.
