Owsy's Midweek Update
16th March 2006 07:49
David Howell

I warned the players before the Hendon match on Saturday that the next three matches, all against teams in the bottom half of the league, would not be great matches to play in nor great matches to watch but they would determine how we finished off the remainder of the season.

I can’t complain with the effort, commitment, discipline and determination my team have shown in the last two matches.

I thought against Hendon we didn’t kill them off and needed a second goal to break them but we didn’t and Hendon always believed they could get something out of the game which they did 10 minutes from the end.

On Tuesday night again the same could be said at Windsor and Eton. Once we had taken the lead through Victor Asombang 20 minutes into the second half, we failed to score that elusive second goal so we were left with a nail biting finish with Windsor still believing they had a chance of getting something out of the game.

On Saturday we travel to Folkestone where it will be as difficult as both the Hendon and Windsor matches combined. Top of the table Braintree could not score at Folkestone last weekend and shared the points in a 0-0 draw and I’m sure Folkestone will want to avenge that 5-0 defeat at Earlsmead back in October.

I would also like to thank the Harrow supporters who travelled to Windsor especially as the team left the changing rooms for the start of the match there was shouts of encouragement and support for the team and it definitely makes a difference and I feel helped my team and our overall performance. This was a stark contrast to the followers of Windsor, who are obviously disappointed with their team’s current league position.

I felt we thoroughly deserved the three points and I was particularly pleased for Victor Asombang who scored the winner.  I was also pleased for young reserve player Kai Williams who has been playing consistently well in the reserves who, by the way, are now top of the Capital league after beating third placed Dulwich Hamlets 4-3 away from home on Wednesday night.

Finally Daniel Dyer missed the Windsor match suffering from flu and a damaged calf muscle. Daniel Nielsen has been off work and went down with a virus that has left him feeling very weak. Danny McGonigle did well against Windsor and had us all worried when he was carried off against Hendon on a stretcher with slight concussion and sustained a calf strain.  Danny Leech is still recovering from a broken toe and with Danny Blanchett’s departure to Cambridge City we don’t appear to be having too much luck with our Daniels!

I can also confirm that we have received seven-day approaches from Conference South Hayes for Daniel Dyer and from Farnham Town for Elliot Onochie.
