Dean
Marney contests the ball

| A
spirited second half fightback
could not make up for the first
half performance as Harrow slipped
to another defeat, their fifth
in a row in the League, at a
damp Earlsmead on Tuesday.
Following Saturday’s
woeful performance against Braintree,
manager Edwin Stein made a number
of changes to the team, including
the experienced Darran Hay in
attack. It was a comedy of a
goal that put the visitors in
front after 15 minutes. Kevin
McKenna gave away a free-kick,
Simon Underwood missed the chance
to head the ball away and, under
pressure from Kingstonian’s
Stafford Browne, Dean Marney
headed the ball over Keita Karamoko
and into his own net.
Otherwise there was little
worthy of note in the first
half. Karamoko turned Steele’s
free-kick round the post and
at the other end a Fabio Valenti
free-kick was deflected past
the post.
But Borough came out with some
life for the second half. Darran
Hay flicked a Danny Murphy free-kick
wide of the post, and then Valenti
cut in from the right to hit
a shot that was deflected into
the side netting. Borough should
have equalised after 55 minutes
when McKenna’s header
reached Underwood, eight yards
out, but he seemed to get the
ball trapped under his foot
and scooped it past the post,
an awful miss by a player who
has looked out-of-place since
arriving in September.
Borough continued to dominate
and again a McKenna header set
up a goal attempt, this time
reaching Ross Fitzsimon who
forced Key to claw away his
header. David Ocquaye then shot
wide from Richard Goddard’s
pass.
Karamoko made a good save from
Browne before, at the other
end, Abdulai Yoki’s header
from McKenna’s free-kick
hit his own man,Marney. Perry
Norman then nearly became the
second Harrow own-goal scorer
of the evening with a sliced
clearance that shot past the
post. Borough finished with
two late attempts, Ocquaye volleying
over from Yoki’s cross,
and a fine Kingston defensive
interception stopping Goddard
reaching another Yoki cross.
