Darran
Hay - his appearance sparked
some life into Harrow |
|
| Harrow slumped
to the foot of the Ryman Premier
table following a defeat against
the only team below them at
the start of the match. And
a second-half fightback could
not dispel the memory of a poor
first half display.
Without a home goal in three
previous games, it took Maidenhead
just six minutes of this one
to break their duck. Richard
Goddard misplaced a pass on
the right, and the ball was
quickly played across to the
other side where Boyce ran through
to beat David Hook.
For the rest of the first half,
the two sides showed why they
occupied the league’s
bottom two positions. Shots
were rare and there were few
passing moves of any quality.
Robert Charles and Danny Murphy
had shots blocked for Borough
while Gray turned and shot wide
for the hosts.
Lee volleyed over the bar for
Maidenhead as the second half
opened, and Hook made good saves
from Dreyer and McIntosh. Borough
brought on Darran Hay for Ross
Fitzsimon and he began to spark
some life into the men from
Harrow. He turned and shot over
the bar from the edge of the
box in the 63rd minute, before
Charles’ cross was just
inches behind him as he raced
in on the near post.
With Abdulai Yoki on for Murphy,
Harrow turned on the screw in
the last 20 minutes. A nice
move saw the ball move between
Fabio Valenti, Hay, Pat Gavin
and Kevin McKenna, before Hart
saved bravely at his feet. Goddard
then headed Stuart Elliott’s
corner past the post. Charles
then made a forceful run into
the box on the left and was
denied by a great save from
Hart, who tipped the ball onto
the crossbar. Yoki crossed for
Gavin to set up Charles with
a downward header but the young
striker could not get his foot
properly above the high bouncing
ball.
Charles was then denied by
another good save, Hart leaping
to his right to tip the ball
round the post. Hay’s
header, wide, and Yoki’s
shot, over, were the final acts
of Borough’s attempts
to salvage a draw from a match
that they really had to win.
